We welcome the knowledgeable contributions of Mitchell and McDonald (1986) in their discussion of our paper (Von Tish et al, 1985) on the Sevier Desert basin. They clearly have access to much data in the region not easily available to academic scientists, and their presentation increases the general understanding of the complex structural and stratigraphic relations in the area. However, we believe that many of their comments are not pertinent to the major points of the original paper, and we differ scientifically on other, more substantial issues.
