Marrs and Raines (1984) presented an approach for analyzing Landsat imagery that we believe is a valuable adjunct to more conventional approaches. We concur with many of their conclusions, particularly that some lineaments mapped from satellite images mark important structural features and that these features can be useful in the search for minerals and hydrocarbons. However, we object to defining lineaments solely on the basis of the type of statistical approach proposed by the authors.
