Drilling in the northern Rockies increased in 1985, with 3,130 wells completed compared to 2,888 wells completed in 1984. Exploratory drilling resulted in 206 oil wells and 24 gas wells. Development drilling produced 1,397 successful wells and 507 dry holes.
