Drilling in the northern Rockies increased in 1984, with 2,888 wells completed compared to 2,546 wells completed in 1983. Exploratory drilling resulted in 215 oil discoveries and 22 gas discoveries. Development drilling resulted in 1,403 successful wells and 432 dry holes.
