In his article on northern Palawan and China, Holloway (1982) presented many new data and a convincing interpretation of various features of Southeast Asia and the South China Sea, particularly of Palawan and Mindoro. Although Holloway emphasized that his suggested development of the Philippine Archipelago was schematic, the emphasis given to it and the nine pages of palinspastic maps showing this development rather overpower the reservations. There is a substantial body of data for the Philippine Sea that should be taken into consideration for the major portion of the archipelago called the “Mobile Zone” by Gervasio (1966).
