ABSTRACT
In 1980, the Northern Rockies had a significant increase in drilling: 2,912 wells were drilled during 1980, compared to 2,500 wells drilled during 1979. Exploratory drilling resulted in 173 oil and 94 gas discoveries. Activity remained high in natural gas areas, but most of the drilling was in multi-pay oil provinces.
