Abstract
In 1979, the Northern Rockies had another increase in drilling. A total of 2,500 wells was drilled during 1979 compared with 2,433 during 1978. Exploratory wells resulted in 127 oil and 81 gas discoveries during 1979. Activities remained high in the natural gas provinces, but increased oil prices toward year end resulted in increased emphasis on exploration for oil.
