Data presented by Blair (1978) do not justify his conclusion that the Hualapai Limestone Member is a marine deposit of the ancestral Gulf of California. Blair (1978, p. 1166) states, “Analysis of the rich fauna and flora which flourished at the time of limestone [Hualapai Limestone Member of the Muddy Creek Formation] deposition rules out a hypersaline environment and indicates that the Hualapai limestone is marine in origin.”

Careful reading of the paper, however, reveals scant paleontologic evidence to support this conclusion. No faunal list is given and no literature is cited to indicate that any animal...
