The interpretation made by Cussey and Friedman (1977) that the textures of the tightly compacted oolites of the Jurassic of the Paris basin were due to pressure solution is clearly incompatible with their description of the sediments. In a photomicrograph of an example of one of the compacted oolites (Fig. 4, Cussey and Friedman, 1977), there is very little actual contact between the grains and cement is present around virtually the entire circumferences of all the grains.
