Abstract
Wells drilled to depths greater than 18,000 ft (5,500 m) in West Texas–New Mexico and Texas Panhandle–Oklahoma show encouraging results. In comparison to nationwide data, the ultradeep wells in these two regions show higher success ratios and lower increase, percentage-wise, in costs. Estimates of productive capacities from initial potentials of ultradeep producers apparently are not depth dependent.
