Truex (1976) has presented evidence supporting left-lateral separation of the Santa Monica and Santa Ana Mountains. Although I believe that there was approximately 90 km of displacement, on the basis of offset lower Miocene shorelines (Yeats, 1968; Yerkes and Campbell, 1971; Yeats et al, 1974), rather than the minimum of 53 to 60 km suggested by Truex (1976; and see Sage, 1973), we are in general agreement on this point.
