Abstract
In 1975 drilling activity in all 3 CSD Districts covered by this report was at essentially the same level as in 1974; however, there was a marked improvement in success ratios for both exploration and development drilling.
Smackover exploration in Arkansas was active, but there was some shift of emphasis to shallow Cretaceous traps. The Smackover “State Line Play,” the Hosston and Cotton Valley Sand plays of the uplift and basin, and the multitude of shallow plays were dominant in Louisiana. Almost every geographic part of East Texas is being explored for one or more key objectives, with a possible new trend being added—the updip Smackover pinchout.
All 3 areas saw successful exploration and development activity in 1975. Drilling activity should remain at about the same level in 1976, continuing exploration trends already established and with continued high success ratios.
