Abstract
In 1975, 496 wells were completed in New York. The increased prices for crude oil, $13.07/bbl at year end, and new intrastate gas, $1.45/Mcf winter rate, were directly responsible for a 43% increase from 1974 completions.
Exploratory drilling (31 tests) resulted in 3 new gas-field discoveries and 7 extensions. The discoveries are in the Silurian Medina sandstone in the southwestern part of the state. Three of the 7 extensions are small. Two deeper pool tests were drilled to Cambrian sandstones but found no deep production.
Oil production in 1975 was 874,550 bbl and gas production amounted to 7,356,000 Mcf.
Reflection seismic work totaled 46 crew-weeks, up from 27 crew-weeks last year.
Undeveloped acreage under lease is estimated at 3 ½ to 4 million acres.
Exploratory drilling for new Medina production will continue in western New York. Wildcat drilling for new industrial gas supplies will move into the central and eastern parts of the state.
