The paper by Bunce et al (1974) provides significant and interesting geophysical information on the Antilles outer ridge and Puerto Rico Trench. It is unfortunate that the authors were not content to stop with the exposition of their own original work and with the integration of unpublished results of earlier related studies. Instead, they have chosen to burden good and valuable research with an interpretation which ignores the land, as well as the marine, geology of the Antillean region.
