The term “calcitic sandstone” is proposed for any clastic rock coarser than a siltstone, containing some form of calcium carbonate as the cementing material. I believe that this is a short, easy, usable term which describes the material.

Such a clastic rock containing dolomite as a cementing material is defined as a dolomitic sandstone.

The Glossary of Geology published by the American Geological Institute, 2d printing, 1973, gives the following definitions:
