Three test wells were drilled in Dare County, North Carolina, and 4 in Cartaret County in the same state. All were dry. Although there was no oil or gas activity in Maryland, 3 water wells were significant because they reached basement at considerable depth. Interest increased in the possibility of drilling on the continental shelf.
