Drilling activity decreased in all 3 CSD Districts covered by this report. The total number of wells drilled in Arkansas decreased 17.8%, in North Louisiana 17.4%, and in East Texas 9.5%. Exploratory drilling resulted in a success ratio of 5.2% in Arkansas, 3.6% in North Louisiana, and 10.0% in East Texas.

The most important exploratory and development activity in South Arkansas was within the Smackover limestone trend. Mohawk field was discovered and development continued at Chalybeat Springs and Walker Creek fields. In North Louisiana the Hosston and Cotton Valley trends were revived and received new drilling activity. The Pettet and Travis Peak led in East Texas with 3 discoveries from each formation. All indications are that the Cedar Springs discovery could result in a major gas field.
