Petroleum production in Middle East countries in 1973 totaled 7,730,714,000 bbl at an average rate of 21,180,038 b/d, compared with 6,580,193,000 bbl or 17,978,669 b/d in 1972. The principal production increases were in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.

New fields were found in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Turkey.

Main areas of exploratory work were in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Oman, and Turkey. There were no exploratory activities in Ajman and Umm Al Gaiwain, Yemen, Cyprus, Jordan, or Lebanon.
