The questions raised by H. A. Meyerhoff about the early history of the Atlantic Ocean bring out some of the problems involved in trying to combine geologic evidence derived from continental studies with new oceanographic information.
As I understand Meyerhoff’s arguments, he objects to the seemingly contradictory nature of Rona (1970) and Emery et al.’s (1970) conclusions about the initial formation of the Atlantic.
