While mapping the Lake Basin area in central Montana (Fig. 1), Hancock (1918) observed and described several shoestring sandstones in the lower part of the Cretaceous Bearpaw Shale. This report includes a description and paleogeographic interpretation of these shoestring sandstones based on field examinations by the writer.
The Upper Cretaceous Montana group in central Montana includes the Eagle Sandstone at the base, the marine Claggett Formation, the continental (?)
