A calcilog is made by analyzing the calcium carbonate content of samples collected at systematic intervals from the shale shaker. Each sample is divided into two parts. The first part consists of particulate cuttings, along with that part of the formation ground by the bit into a fine powder, and a negligible amount of drilling mud.
