Greatly increased exploratory drilling in Montana resulted in only a slight drop in the success ratio. Development of the Cedar Creek and Poplar fields resulted in increased total production for Montana.

A decrease in wildcat drilling in North Dakota during 1955 was compensated by an increase in success ratio which points the way to an anticipated increase in wildcatting during 1956, particularly in the shallower east side part of the Williston basin.

A slight decline in geophysical activity is expected for the area during 1956, but an increase in acreage evaluation by drilling is anticipated in Montana and North Dakota due to soon forthcoming lease expirations.
