Over-all drilling activity in North Louisiana remained fairly stable, showing only a 7% increase over 1954. Arkansas, however, experienced a 31% increase in drilling activity.

For the area a total of 423 exploratory wells were drilled, of which 87 were successful as compared with 43 successes out of 286 in 1954. Fifty-five of these successes were credited to Arkansas; North Louisiana accounted for the remaining 32.

Exploratory drilling resulted in 12 new-field discoveries in North Louisiana and 10 new-field discoveries in Arkansas.

North Louisiana had a marked increase of 122% in geophysical activity in 1955 as compared with 1954; Arkansas experienced a decrease of 61% as compared with 1954.
