ABSTRACT
Thirty-one test wells were completed in 1955, with a total exploratory footage of more than 41,000 feet. Three of these were small oil wells, and one with a good gas showing had not been thoroughly tested at the end of the year. Eight tests reached the Knox dolomite, and a 5,405-foot hole in Cumberland County was the second deepest ever drilled in Tennessee. Interest and activity at the end of the year indicate considerable exploration during 1956.
