Oil exploration on the Atlantic Coastal Plain north of Georgia was limited to two dry holes in North Carolina. The duGrandlee test in Camden County is significant because it reached a total depth of 6,421 feet3 in an area where basement had been estimated at no more than 3,600 feet. The explanation lies in the presence of a hitherto unreported Triassic basin. A report on the correlations of this well is being prepared by the present writer.
