Thirty test wells were drilled in 1953 with an average of a little more than 1,000 feet of exploratory footage per test. Two wildcats made commercial wells and 6 outposts, 4 in Pickett and 2 in Robertson County, made successful oil wells. While activity was less than had been estimated at the beginning of the year, several interesting tests were drilled and prospects looked better for 1954. At the close of the year, interest in western Tennessee was higher than at any time in several years and large blocks of leases were still being taken.
