It has now been a matter of thirty-five years since the first few laboratories devoted to the study of Foraminifera were established in the oil-company offices in Houston, Dallas, and Cisco, but the actual use of the microfossils for the purposes of correlation had begun several years before. Many of the well known geologists of Texas had a part in the introduction of the science, but if any one man could be given the major credit for first introducing micropaleontology to the oil industry in Texas, it would probably be J. A. Udden.
