ABSTRACT
Drilling activity in Arkansas and North Louisiana in 1952 increased 6 per cent over 1951. In all 315 exploratory and 1,462 development wells were drilled in the two states in 1952.
Total exploratory wells drilled in Arkansas increased from 100 in 1951 to 106 in 1952, resulting in the discovery of 12 new oil fields and 2 new gas fields.
In North Louisiana, 12 oil fields and 6 gas fields were discovered with 209 exploratory wells drilled. Development wells in North Louisiana increased from 994 in 1951 to 1,117 in 1952.
The Springhill field, discovered in northern Webster Parish, Louisiana, was extended into southern Columbia County, Arkansas, and was the most important discovery of the year.
The most significant change in geophysical activity occurred in Arkansas, with 245 crew-weeks worked, compared with 449 crew-weeks in 1951, showing a 45 per cent decrease.
