Continued exploratory drilling in the Williston Basin area of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, North Dakota, and eastern Montana has made apparent a need for a unified terminology for application to the Devonian stratigraphy of this area. The writer has in progress a detailed regional report which relates to this subject, but publication of this report will be somewhat delayed by problems of manuscript, editing, and drafting. In the meantime, the prevailing terminological confusion serves to impede progress in the understanding of Devonian problems in the area.
