Drilling activity in Arkansas and North Louisiana in 1950 decreased 3 per cent under the 1949 rate. There were 306 exploratory wells and 1,439 field-wells drilled in the year.

Production in 1950 was 82,829,610 barrels, representing a 2 per cent increase over 1949.

Discoveries in Arkansas consisted of 8 new oil fields, 4 extensions, and 3 new producing zones. In North Louisiana, there were 12 new oil fields and 3 new distillate fields discovered. Thirteen extensions and 17 new producing zones were added to proved fields of North Louisiana.

Subsurface geology accounted for 11 of the 20 new-field discoveries in Arkansas and North Louisiana, but geophysical methods attained the highest degree of success.

Geophysical activity declined 24 per cent in Arkansas and 43 per cent in North Louisiana.
