While activity was high in the early and closing months of 1950, a mid-year lull in exploration resulted in an unusually small number of completions and a low figure for footage drilled. There were 30 test wells completed with a total footage of 31,207 feet, making an average of a little more than 1,000 feet per hole.
One successful oil well was brought in but at the close of the year had not been sufficiently tested to predict its daily output. This was the A. C. York’s Robbins No. 3, Pickett County, a few miles from the old “Bob’s Bar”...
