The Upper Cretaceous of western (coastal) Ecuador is represented by the Callo and the Guayaquil formations, the Paleocene by the Estancia formation. The three formations are extremely poor in Foraminifera and other microfossils in contrast with their time equivalents in northern Peru and northern Colombia. Notes are given on type locality, general lithology and microfossil content for each formation.
