Regional studies in many states where there are promising possibilities for the discovery of new supplies of petroleum and natural gas are being undertaken by the Geological Survey of the United States Department of the Interior. These studies have been provided for by a Congressional appropriation of $300,000 for this purpose during the present fiscal year, beginning July 1, 1943. The different parts of the United States where work is being undertaken include California, the Rocky Mountain region, the Mid-Continent region, the Gulf Coastal Plain, and the Appalachian region.
