Name.—In north-central Venezuela Lower and Middle Eocene beds which to the west are included in the Misoa-Trujillo formation, are called the Ortiz sandstone from the village of Ortiz in the Serrania del Interior in the northern part of the State of Guárico. The formation outcrops in the rugged sandstone hills to the south of the type locality and from this place extends east and west.
