An interesting discovery of hauerite (MnS2) has been made in the cap rock of the Big Hill salt dome, Matagorda County, Texas. This dome is also known as Gulf, and is owned and operated for sulphur by the Texas Gulf Sulphur Company. So far as the writer knows, this mineral has not previously been observed in any of the gulf coastal domes. It was first found in a well drilled on the south-central part of the cap-rock area.
