This paper deals with some results of a microscopic study of surface samples and core samples taken from exposures of oil-bearing formations and from certain wells drilled in the Sunset-Midway oil field and in a region north of Bakersfield.

The correlative value of various lithological characteristics and the microfossils found in the formations is considered. A possible stratigraphical division of the formations is described, and several examples of well correlations by microlithology or micropaleontology, or both, are given.
