Nigger Creek, a new oil pool in the general zone of Mexia faulting, was opened July 8, 1926, with the completion of Rosson No. 1 drilled by the Transcontinental Oil Company, making 2,797 barrels the first twenty-four hours. The well flowed steadily with no water. The oil had a corrected gravity of 39.9°. Its temperature was 97°. This production was found in the Woodbine sand at a depth of 2,846 feet. On August 23, a month and a half after the discovery, the pool was producing 14,726 barrels a day from twelve wells.
