ABSTRACT
This paper describes several experiments in which various types and arrangements of sedimentary materials, after being charged with oil and water in such a way as to simulate conditions in nature, were placed in a steel cylinder and compacted at high pressures. The results are believed to justify the conclusion that the compaction of petroliferous sediments either as a result of the weight of the overlying load or of deformation is an important cause of the movement of oil into reservoir rocks.
